'The dam will irrigate 3,000 acres of agricultural land'

QUETTA: The completion of Khawajzi Dam will usher in a new era of progress and agricultural revolution, said Balochistan Livestock, Dairy Development and Environment Minister Mitha Khan Kakar.

“It [Khawajzi Dam] will provide economic benefits to the locals of the area and the landowners,” he said during his visit to the site of Khawajzi Dam which is being constructed at a cost of Rs270 million.

The minister noted that the 42sq-km dam would be used for livestock, agriculture and irrigation, which will also raise water levels in the area. He said he remained steadfast to fulfill his promises he had made during the election.

“My priority is to solve the basic social problems of the people. Projects worth Rs3 billion are underway," he added.

The irrigation engineer, who was present on the occasion, while briefing the minister said that two canals of 900ft and 170ft width respectively with spillways of 50ft height would be built with the dam.

"The dam will irrigate 3,000 acres of agricultural land," he said.
