Two killed in encounter

Robbers opened indiscriminate fire in a bid to escape, Dolphin Squad personnel returned fire

FAISALABAD: Two robbers were killed in an exchange of fire with Dolphin Squad in Gulberg area in the early hours of Wednesday. No police official was injured during the shootout.

Gulberg police took the bodies into custody and shifted them to a hospital for post-mortem. The police seized a motorcycle and two pistols and filed a case under various sections. Shortly before dawn, personnel of Dolphin Squad were patrolling in Chak 279, near Narwala Chowk in Gulberg area, when they signaled the suspects to stop. The suspected robbers were riding a motorcycle on the road from Yamaha Chowk to Anasi Road, The Express Tribune learnt.

In response to the officials’ signal, the men opened indiscriminate fire in a bid to escape. The Dolphin Squad personnel returned fire and both the motorcyclists sustained bullet injuries during the encounter. The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Latif aka Tiffa, resident of Chak 77, and Irfan Lal Deen, resident of Chak 658-GB.
