Sites identified to set up arms industry in Darra Adamkhel

Industry will be set up on 400 kanals of land at a cost of Rs153.95m

At least two sites have been identified for the establishment of a legal arms industry in Darra Adamkhel area, a senate panel was informed on Wednesday

The Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) met on Wednesday with Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi in the chair. The meeting was informed that two sites have been identified for the establishment of a legal arms industry at the famous arms market in Darra Adamkhel.

The arms industry will be set up on 400 kanals of land at an estimated cost of Rs153.948 million.  Senator Afridi pointed out that the project has been on hold owing to objections raised by locals.


Being a public representative, he said the proposed sites were analysed and the project will be built at a suitable place, keeping in view the Interest of locals.

Following the merger of tribal districts, Senator Afridi said that the arms industries of Darra Adamkhel — which have historically operated in the federally administered frontier regions of the province - will be given legal status.

The committee’s chairperson and other members visited the Azadi Mela in Darra Adamkhel and Matani areas where they met with local elders.
