Express/ppi June 16, 2010

KARACHI: MQM MPA Askari Taqvi demanded the government to levy tax on agriculture income and include big landlords in the tax net in the first phase.

Taqvi made the statement during the debate on provincial budget being presided over by the speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Wednesday.

He said the government should impose agriculture tax to generate more revenue. Talking about the release of harmful gases from Thar Coal, he said that nothing had been allocated for alleviating environmental pollution in the budget, and urged that a Sindh Alternative Energy Board be formed to encourage the usage of solar and wind power.

Talking on law and order, the MPA said that citizens returning from abroad were looted at Shahra e Faisal by an organized gang of criminals. He urged government to order an inquiry into the matter and provide safety to people.

Shoaib | 14 years ago | Reply It was earlier indicated by the then Finance Minister - Mr. Shaukat Tareen that Agriculture Tax will be levied soon in the interest of Poor People of Pakistan but the same is still pending which is not understand. Untill and unless, the elected peoples government become serious, the law and order situation will remain as it is. This is my personal views.
