QUETTA: The 91th passing-out parade of police was held at the training centre in Quetta as 720 new recruits joined the force.

In his speech at the ceremony, police training centre commandant Saleem Lehri said that 720 recruits of 183 upper, 194 Intermediate and 343 lower courses received a five-month training in combating crime and terrorism.

He noted that October 16 was an unforgettable day in the history of Balochistan police when 64 recruits had embraced martyrdom in a terrorist attack. “Such incidents have failed to demoralise our officers and they are stronger than before,” he added.

Lehri said the training course had been updated to improve the skills and capacity of the Balochistan police.

He demanded that the issues of new academic blocks, a tube well and a firing range must be addressed to facilitate the training of the recruits.

Additional IG Naeem Ahmed Barokha, the chief guest of the ceremony, inspected the parade along with the commandant. Barokha said police was a sacred profession. “I hope the new recruits will respect the police uniform.”
