On repeat: Why celebrities are paving the way for sustainable fashion

Even some of the richest in society are not ashamed to do their part for the environment

Seeing celebrities in the spotlight using their platform to spread awareness in subtle ways inspires us to continue doing our part in saving the planet.

Research finds fast fashion has detrimental effects on our planet. According to Greenpeace, fashion brands need to take action to remove toxic chemicals from their supply chains, after it tested a number of after it tested a number of brands’ products and confirmed the presence of hazardous chemicals.

Not only this, textile dyeing is the second largest polluter of clean water globally, after agriculture. Criticisms of fast fashion include its negative environmental impact, water pollution, the use of toxic chemicals and increasing levels of textile waste.

Some of our favourite celebrities have taken initiatives by removing the stigma of repeating outfits, by changing the concepts of fast fashion.

With great success comes great responsibility! While Bollywood is still warming up to the idea of repeating outfits, the industry's leading lady made a statement back in 2017 by repeating a red carpet outfit from 2012 and seems to continue doing her bit, be it casual or dressy outfits from her wardrobe.

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge

While some Royals do repeat outfits, Kate Middleton surely beats them all. Her earliest repeats were photographed from 2011-2012 and she has repeated everything from casual jackets to formal suits to even cocktail gowns! Kate is well known for wearing designer jackets and gowns on multiple occasions, making people love her down-to-earth attitude even more.

Michelle Obama

The much-loved former first-lady posed a question around the 'double standards' of repeating an outfit for a man and a woman. She mentioned how her husband, Barack Obama, always repeated the same suits and they were no questions asked. However, when it came to Michelle's outfits, repeated or not, the accessories and every small detail were photographed and talked about with some raised eyebrows.

The ever graceful veteran Hollywood actor has repeated outfits many a time. This particular outfit particularly leaves us awe-inspired with her amazingly different styling for the same dress! Mirren is also leaving a subtle yet strong message about the fact it's okay to repeat outfits, even when you're a celebrity and mega rich!

The Joker star and Oscar-winner is all about environmentally-friendly actions and repeating outfits. He famously donned the same tuxedo all throughout this awards season, and we think it's kind of amazing!
