‘Law against child abuse to be tabled in K-P Assembly'

PESHAWAR: The parliamentary body formed to offer recommendations for legislation against child abuse has prepared a draft bill in this regard which will soon be tabled in the provincial assembly for approval.

This was stated by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani on Monday while launching the tree plantation drive being organised by Peshawar Development Authority.

Ghani said the provincial government has received the draft bill of against child sexual abuse. The bill would be tabled in the provincial for approval after which it would be sent to the provincial cabinet for approval, he added.

The speaker said the provincial government was serious in tackling the issue of sexual abuse of minors and will take measures in this regard.

The 13-member parliamentary committee had recommended public hanging and capital punishment to convicts of sexual assault against minors.

Last month, in an effort to tackle the rising incidents of sexual assault against minors, the provincial government approved the establishment of seven special child protection courts in the province.

Operating at the divisional level, these courts aim to expedite hearing of crimes related to children.

An additional district and sessions judges will be appointed to each of these seven courts.
