Sarmad Khoosat calls Film/TV fraternity a joke in cryptic tweet

Perhaps it is linked to the industry's response to 'Zindagi Tamasha' or perhaps it is something else

Critically acclaimed film-maker Sarmad Khoosat, in a rather cryptic tweet, has called out the showbiz community of Pakistan. In the tweet Khoosat goes on to mock the "Film/TV 'fraternity', describing it as a 'joke'.

"Been holding this back for a while as I didn’t want it to be an angry outrage, but let me tell you a good joke now: Film/TV ‘fraternity’. Yeah the joke’s right there, an oxymoron too!" he said.

The tweet led some to believe that Khoosat was alluding to the ordeal his upcoming film Zindagi Tamasha (ZT) is currently going through.

While it is yet to be determined as to what specifically Khoosat is talking about, over a month ago certain celebrities rallied in support of the director after the release of ZT was blocked, while other remained silent.

Mahira Khan had pointed out how judgments are passed without viewing the whole scenario and in a sentence summarised how intolerance is prevailing.  “Time and again we are made to realise our power and our influence. A film (that people haven’t seen) can make some this scared,” she said.

Humayun Saeed followed suit and spoke up against the ongoing threats the filmmaker is facing in a rather stern manner. “Address this (i.e. concerns raised in Sarmad’s letter) at the earliest. Filmmaking in Pakistan is already a tough challenge – those who dare to venture into it need to be encouraged and appreciated,” he said.
