Delhi burning

Pakistan should not stop fighting and open up its arms to the Muslims in India who need a safe haven to live

Letter March 02, 2020

KARACHI: Citizens of Delhi are protesting against the controversial CAA. Trump’s trip seems to have enraged the people of New Delhi and over the past few days riots have taken place in the Indian capital that have killed around 28 people. Muslims are being targeted and their houses are being set on fire. There are many videos sent through Whatsapp or posted on social media that show the brutality that is occurring against Muslims in New Delhi. Many are unable to watch the violence shown in the videos that our Muslims brothers are facing. Families are stuck on rooftops while being surrounded by riotous mobs with sticks in their hands.

The Indian media was too busy focusing on US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump as Delhi was being burnt. This shows the lack of humanity that the people of India have, owing to the rapid rise of the BJP and Hindutva ideology. The ideology aims to unite Hindus in order to create a single identity in India. The rest of the people, which mainly seem to be Muslims, are thought as outsiders and viruses that have infected their holy land.

The government and other extremist groups have done nothing to stop the protests. Instead, authorities and security officials are supporting the mob to burn down Muslim localities and mosques. It seems that most of the world has remained silent to what India is doing to Muslims in Kashmir and in India. The international community needs to push India to immediately stop the violence and sort the matter out. Pakistan should not stop fighting and open up its arms to the Muslims in India who need a safe haven to live. It is at this time that the initial meaning of Pakistan is embodied by all citizens for their Muslim brother in India and Pakistan. I feel that if we collectively pressure Modi and the BJP government or work diplomatically towards ending the violence that is rampant across India we will be able to help the Kashmiris and the Muslims being persecuted in India. Now is the time to act for our brothers.
