While Green Club was cleaning the beach, the team found plastic bottles, wrappers of snacks, cigarette butts, etc. Although the amount of rubbish wasn’t as bad as last year’s, I was still disgusted. All of this plastic ends up in oceans and rivers and destroys the marine ecosystem. We have reached a point that oceans have traces of micro-plastic and this is the source of drinking water for majority of the people on earth.
Littering is a crime, but the law isn’t properly being implemented in many areas in Karachi. We need to educate our youth and make them aware about the effects that plastic and garbage has on the environment. Everyone should help in getting the message across to people who still litter. What will our beaches look like in the future? What will be left? We are living on this planet as if we have another one to go to.
