Adviser to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Dr Ishrat Hussain while speaking at the launching ceremony of “Pakistan Migration Report 2020” on Wednesday said overseas migrants could improve the socio-economic indicators of Pakistan through their contribution in the knowledge economy.

The report was published by the Centre on Migration, Remittances and Diaspora (CIMRAD), housed at the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (GIDS) in Lahore School of Economics (LSE).

Hussain was invited as the chief guest of the launching ceremony held at the LSE Burki Campus.

He commended the report for its evidence-based research approach, in bringing together scattered and partial information on overseas migration and remittances in a comprehensive form as well as raising important questions for academics, policy-makers and the government.

The Pakistan Migration Report 2020 analysed the flow of overseas migration from Pakistan and the resulting remittances, both of which have a significant impact on the economy of Pakistan especially on employment and labour market, and in providing vital support to the balance of payments situation.
