Food commodities: Shaikh calls for ensuring fair prices

Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh says burden on the common man should not be enhanced due to runaway prices

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired a high-level meeting to evaluate the prevailing prices of essential food commodities in the country.

During the meeting held at the Finance Division, the adviser was given a detailed briefing on the prices of essential items, price trends over the years and the comparison with prices in international markets.

Shaikh was also briefed on the measures taken to control the hike in prices of essential food items and the preparation for the upcoming months including Ramazan.

The PM aide directed the relevant stakeholders to take all requisite measures to ensure that reasonable prices of all essential items were maintained across the country in effective coordination with the provincial governments.

He stressed that burden on the common man should not be enhanced due to runaway prices.

Separately, a delegation of Mitsubishi Corporation called on Shaikh at the Finance Division.
