One police official martyred, two injured in DI Khan blast

Police vehicle was deployed for the security of polio workers

PESHAWAR: At least one police official was martyred and two were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) blew up near a police vehicle in the Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan.

District Police Officer Wahid Mahmood confirmed that the police vehicle was deployed for the security of polio workers.

A head constable was martyred and another head constable and driver were injured in the blast, police officials added.

The martyred police official was identified as Riaz, the injured were identified as Shakeel and Ataullah.

Two female workers die in attack on polio team in Swabi

Last month, two female polio workers were gunned down in Razar Tehsil of Swabi district on Wednesday when unknown assailants attacked them.

Local police sources informed The Express Tribune that the victims were administering polio vaccination in Mir Ali Area of Swabi when the men opened fire on the workers.

The deceased were identified as Shakeela, a resident of Parmoli village while the other victim was Ghuncha who belonged to Bukki area of Swabi.

Shakeela died on the spot while Ghuncha was seriously injured and has been shifted to Mardan Medical Complex for further treatment. Later, she was also pronounced dead.
