Detention of 4 sugar hoarders ordered

Suspects will be detained for 30 days for trying to create an artificial shortage of sugar

LAHORE: Lahore Deputy Commissioner Danish Afzal has issued detention orders for a month against four people on charges of hoarding sugar.

The orders are part of the provincial government’s measures against hoarding of sugar.

A letter sent to Lahore Police and other agencies said Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered strict action against hoarding and directed the district governments to act against those trying to create an artificial sugar crisis.

According to the detention order, the suspects were trying to create an artificial sugar crisis which could lead to disruption of peace. The suspects will be detained for 30 days for trying to create an artificial shortage of sugar.

According to police officials, the order to detain the accused has been received and they can be held in any jail after being apprehended.

The officials added that the detention period could also be extended.

They said one of the four accused had been arrested and police would soon arrest the others.
