RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi police have registered a case against suspects who attempted to sexually assault a woman after she accepted their offer of a lift within the remits of the Waris Khan police station on Sunday.
AN* told the Waris Khan police that she was walking towards Hukumdad Chowk from Committee Chowk when the suspects, identified as Faisal Butt, Muhammad Hussain, and Ziauddin, stopped by in their car.
The suspects offered to drop the victim at her destination. Since AN* knew them, she boarded the car. The car was still moving when Hussain and Ziauddin allegedly tried to force themselves on the victim. When AN* started screaming for help, Ziauddin took out his pistol and started threatening her.
The suspects, though, pulled the car to the side of the road and allowed AN* to disembark from the vehicle and drove away. The police have registered a case against the suspects and started a probe into the incident.
Road accidents
A policeman was killed while five others sustained injuries in two separate accidents on Sunday. Officials said that Constable Qaiser Aurangzaib was part of the security detail deployed at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for the cricket test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He was riding his motorbike to the stadium on Sunday with his colleague Ali Hasnain when a speeding car rammed their bike near the Mankiala Bridge and fled.
As a result of the collision, the two were sent flying in the air. Aurangzaib suffered critical injuries and died on the spot, while Hasnain was wounded. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
In a separate incident, two passenger vehicles overturned after a collision near the Shamsabad Cricket Stadium on Murree Road. As a result, four passengers, including Atif and Kashif, sustained serious injuries.
The victims were then shifted to a hospital by Rescue 1122. Newtown police station SHO Inspector Mirza Javed asserted that the accident was a result of speeding. He, however, added that the driver has been arrested while they were conducting raids to apprehend the other driver.
68 gamblers booked
The police on Sunday claimed to have arrested as many as 68 gamblers who were betting on rooster fights within the remits of the Sadiqabad police station on Saturday.
Police also claimed to have recovered Rs148,970 in stake money, 50 cellphones and two cockerels worth almost Rs0.2 million and all 68 people present on the site.
Suicide attempt
The police have registered a case against a man who tried to commit suicide in an empty lot in the Naseerabad area on Sunday.
Police officials said that Constable Mubin Zaib was stationed at Imtiaz Market when he suddenly heard a gunshot from a nearby empty lot.
Constable Zaib rushed to the site and saw a man lying on the ground with his right hand covered in blood. The victim was identified as Nauman Khan and was shifted to the hospital.
Naseerabad Police have registered a case against the victim for attempting suicide.
