Police rescue kidnapped girl in joint operation

The six-year-old had gone to buy something from a shop near her house when she went missing

KARACHI: Saeedabad and Surjani Town police rescued a girl and arrested a man suspected to be involved in her kidnapping during a joint operation in Khuda Ki Basti on Friday. Six-year-old Sawera had been kidnapped from Saeedabad by unidentified men on Thursday

According to Saeedabad SHO Iftekhar Qureshi, Sawera had gone to buy something from a shop near her house when she went missing. Her parents, after searching for the girl and making an announcement in the mosque, reported her disappearance. A case was registered on behalf of Sawera's uncle, Muhammad Azam, after which the police began an investigation.

West SSP Fida Hussain Janwari formed a committee comprising SHO Qureshi and Surjani Town SHO Jan Muhammad Ahmedani regarding the matter. They supervised a joint operation based on a tip-off in Khuda Ki Basti, leading to Sawera's recovery early on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, a suspect, identified as Javed Masih, was arrested during the operation, with a TT pistol and a motorcycle confiscated from his possession.

A separate case has been registered against Masih and forwarded to the investigation police. The police reportedly expect Masih to make important confessions during interrogation.
