PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Monday directed to finalise a comprehensive sports policy for the province and to introduce sports as a subject in the curriculum.

CM Mahmood also approved a project to bring the K-P Integrated Tourism Enterprise Project (KITE) under the tourism authority with reporting to the chief minister.

He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting to review the performance of the sports, culture and tourism department of the province. This is the first meeting helmed by Mahmood after the tourism minister Atif Khan was sacked last month.

The chief minister directed the department to ensure maximum utilisation of developmental funds to avoid lapses. He also directed to expedite work on the Arbab Niaz Stadium to host the next Pakistan Super League tournament. Documents from the finance department had recently shown that in the first seven months of the fiscal year, the department had utilised a fraction of the funds allocated for it.

The meeting also decided to identify and promote tourism activities in the southern districts of the province during winters and holding of folk and spring festivals.
