#BAFTAS2020: Best dressed celebrities of the night
It was a star-studded night for sustainable fashion and glamour! See which celebrities made our style cut
KARACHI:
Last night, some of our favourite Hollywood stars descended on the Royal Albert Hall in London for the British Academy Film Awards, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton.
As is the case every year, the Baftas red carpet attracts a number of fashionable figures but for 2020, attendees have been asked to follow a very specific dress code. Sustainable fashion was the theme, which encouraged guests to either re-wear something they already own or hire an ensemble as opposed to buying something new.
The night also urged celebrities to make the most of rental fashion sites and opt for sustainable fashion brands, such as Stella McCartney and Reformation, which are renowned for using innovative eco-friendly materials.
Glamour was definitely combined with sustainability as many celebrities rocked up in some of their most stunning looks yet, such as Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Bombshell beauty Charlize Theron. And of course, we can't forget the men, because two also made our cut.
Let's take a look at some of our favourite star-studded ensembles.
Charlize Theron
That's more like it! While we were not green with envy for the South African beauty's interesting choice of colour and cut at the Oscars a few weeks ago, this purple Dior gown blew everyone away! Charlize arrived on the red carpet in the strapless dress featuring a plunging neckline and A-line skirt, which was highlighted by the addition of a slim black waist belt. She also accessorised the look perfectly with a diamond necklace by Tiffany & Co.
Emilia Clarke
We all know Emilia as the white-haired queen of dragons Daenerys Targaryen, but her glossy brunette locks and smoldering eye makeup is also winning hearts! Emilia arrived at the Bafta's wearing an elegant black column-style dress designed by Schiaparelli that featured thin straps and sequin embellishment. The star accessorised with purple gemstone drop earrings.
Kate Middleton
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge championed sustainable fashion as they arrived at the Baftas looking classy, as always. While William opted for a classic black trouser suit, Kate chose a stunning Alexander McQueen gown which she has worn before several times.
Scarlett Johansson
The Black Widow star chose a pink sequin dress by Versace for the occasion which featured a feather-trimmed floor-length skirt. Not only did Scarlett look ethereal, her dusty-pink makeup and elegant high bun was a perfect choice for this ensemble!
Joaquin Phoenix
The Joker star took home the award for Best Actor and received praise for using his Baftas speech to call out "systemic racism" in the film industry. Joaquin has vowed to wear the same suit to every awards show this year, thus walked the red carpet wearing a custom-made tuxedo by Stella McCartney. A classic black tuxedo is still a winner though, as he exuded charm.
Margot Robbie
Birds of Prey star opted for a black floor-length Chanel gown for the night. The dress featured delicate lace sleeves and a matching peplum at the waist, which enhanced the Australian beauty's natural features.
Ella Balinska
The Charlie's Angels beauty opted for a pretty white-and-pink floral dress by Giambattista Valli. We love how Ella completed the otherwise girlish gown with a dramatic cape and soft rose makeup.
'1917' wins best film at BAFTA awards amid 'whitewashing' criticism
Renee Zellweger
Pink seemed to be the running theme but the Bridget Jones star did it oh-so-right! Renee surely looked like the winner she is for being awarded Best Actress in the simple but chic column gown by Prada that featured a Bardot neckline.
Daisy Ridley
The Star Wars star has certainly used her Jedi powers in the fashion department because she turned heads in all the right ways on the red carpet! The strapless emerald green dress by Oscar de la Renta featured a gorgeous sheer asymmetric shoulder design that we couldn't stop admiring.
John Boyega
Another Star Wars star rocking the Baftas red carpet and we can't get enough of his infectious smile! The actor shunned the traditional black tuxedo in favour of a red brocade trouser suit which he paired with a white shirt. We are a fan!
