The victim, BH*, who hailed from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), complained to the Rawat police that he had befriended a man who called himself Amir on the social media network, Facebook. After some days, they both exchanged their cellphone numbers and soon their friendship grew stronger.
One day, the victim expressed his desire to go abroad to Amir after which the suspect invited BH* to his house in Rawat where he promised to arrange a meeting with travel agents. Excited by the opportunity, BH* immediately reached Amir’s house and saw three people there, including a man wearing a police uniform.
The suspects held the victim hostage for the next seven hours during which time, they recorded his compromising videos at gunpoint. After this, the suspects demanded BH* pay them Rs50,000.
They threatened to post his videos on the internet and frame him in different criminal activities should he fail to pay them.
The victim managed to arrange Rs15,000 from his family and friends which bought him freedom from his captors. However, before letting him go, the suspects allegedly snatched the victim’s cellphone and took Rs6,000 from his pocket.
BH* told the police that the suspects are still threatening him and demanding money. Rawat SHO said that a man, identified as Rashid, has been arrested and is being questioned.
