ISLAMABAD:

The Airport Security Force (ASF) officials on Thursday foiled narcotics smuggling bid and arrested an alleged trafficker at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA).

The airport sources said that Abdul Jalil Farooqi, a resident of Railway Colony, Dadu, Sindh, was about to travel to America via Dubai by an Emirate Airlines flight (IK-615). He had already been cleared by the officials of customs and Anti-Narcotics Force. The sources said that when the man put two suitcases on the weighing machine they were too heavy.

The ASF staff became suspicious, opened the suitcases and found toys in it. They tore the suitcases and recovered 30kg heroin from their hidden compartments. The airport staff handed the man over to ANF. Upon interrogation, he revealed that he had come into contact with some men at a local hotel at Jehlum Road, who had given him Rs200,000 cash and a travelling ticket for smuggling the consignment to America. They also assured him that the suitcases will not be checked at the airport.

The closed-circuit cameras footage confirmed that the man had not been frisked or his suitcases checked at ANF and customs counters.
