Whose Property?: Court seeks record of land ownership

A division bench of the Lahore High Court adjourned till July 28 the hearing of a petition challenging an alleged illegally occupation of 68 kanals by the administration of the Military College Jhelum (MCJ) in Sara-i-Alamgir.


On Thursday, a law officer on sought more time to find out about the status of the land in official record. The petition was filed by Advocate Sarfraz Ahmad, who said that the land was owned by the Punjab government and had been used by the locals as a public park.

He said that the MCJ commandant had started constructing a boundary wall around the land. He said the commandant had also established a CNG station and had leased it out. He said that the respondent had taken over public property and denied people access to the park.

He requested the court to restrain the MCJ administration from occupying the land.
