Ten transgender persons were arrested in Swat on Sunday, a day after allegedly launching an attack on Mingora Police Station over 'maltreatment' of some members of the marginalised community.

Yesterday, footage of transgender persons hurling bricks inside the premises, as well as, stoning the compound went viral.

A case has now been registered against the suspects.

Swat's transgender community 'attacks' police station after ‘maltreatment’

Members of the marginalised community were protesting against the release of two suspects who had allegedly opened fire on the residence of the a transgender person.

Slogan-chanting protesters had also blocked the road leading to the police station and called for action to be taken against those involved.

One of the protesters had told The Express Tribune that police had not only thrashed them but also threw them out of the premises.

While Nadia Khan, president of the Swat transgender association, said that Naimat Ali, a transgender person, had filed a complaint against Sajad Ali and Hussain Ali for allegedly opening fire on her residence.

Meanwhile, SHO Mingora Anwar Khan said a complaint was lodged four days ago against two men, who had been granted bail by the court.

He quashed claims that police attacked or humiliated the transgender persons.
