'Load Wedding' wins big at Gold Awards

The Gold Awards is a monthly festival in London

Nabeel Qureshi's most recent comedy blockbuster Load Wedding just added more gold to its list of accolades. The film bagged two wins at the Gold Movie Awards in London. Gold Movie Awards is a monthly festival that carries out annual screenings in London of films from across the globe.

The film won an award for best Feature foreign language and best cinematography  in its annual list for 2019. Last year the Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat-starrer Load Wedding bagged the award for Best Feature Film (International) at the Rajasthan International Film Festival 2019 (RIFF).

Director Nabeel Qureshi added, “It’s always a very pleasant feeling to see your work being recognised and acknowledged. Load Wedding is a film very different from all the other films I have done and also very special to me. I’m very happy to be honored by this award from RIFF 2019,” shared Qureshi.

Additionally Load Wedding was also nominated as the Best Feature for Jaipur Film Festival in India.  The director had described it as a 'humbling' experience.

Aside from international acclaim, the film also managed to win big locally. It received five nominations including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Viewers' choice), Best Actress (Critics' choice) and Best Playback Singer at the Lux Style Awards.

Both Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat won for Best Actor (Viewers' choice) and Best Actress (Critics' choice) respectively.

Despite the film receiving praise both locally and internationally it suffer some setbacks . Qureshi following the film's release had expressed his frustrations with local distributors and cinema owners.

Qureshi had gone on to describe them as 'useless'. “As exhibitors, it’s their job to give an equal amount of shows to all the local films that are releasing on the same day. If one film fails to perform well, the show times can be reduced – which was not the case.” he told the Express Tribune previously.
