Rehmat Ajmal regrets acting in 'Meray Paas Tum Ho'

The starlet said it was because of Khalilur Rehman's 'problematic views'

Television starlet Rehmat Ajmal, who recently earned fame through her role in the popular serial Mere Paas Tum Ho, came forth on Wednesday making some startling revelations.

The actor took to Instagram to talk about how she regrets working in the drama after getting to know about the writer, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar's, ideologies.

In an elaborate post, the model-cum-actor, penned down her thoughts on being part of the trending serial, written by a writer who continues to face flak over his ‘misogynistic’ views.

“I understand that we as artists have a social responsibility in terms of the content we produce and the messages we put forward - and I take that responsibility with a lot of seriousness and dignity,” she said.

“I’ve been receiving a lot of concerned, hateful and confused messages since the past few months and as much as I want to address them individually, I think I’ll just give an overview of my perspective for now,” she continued.

“I absolutely do not endorse the concepts and viewpoints of Mr. Khalilur Rehman. I watched Khalilur Rehman’s interview and got to know about his problematic views on very many things way after the project was completed," said the starlet, referring to her awakening.

“I am not proud to be a part of something that is so compromising and ill-informed. However, I (like many others) was not aware of the entire story line or Mr. Khalilur Rehman’s ideology at the time this project was shot - which was a year ago," clarified Ajmal, to avoid any hate coming her way for her participation.

“My role in this project is limited so, I did not get a chance to see how it’ll come together or how it’ll eventually unroll on television and that is where I think I slipped a little," she added further for anyone questioning her for being part of something and then bashing it. "It was my first ever telecom project and I am learning - I have learnt to be cautious and more conscious with my creative choices.”

She concluded the note by saying: “Please extend new, struggling artists some leeway as we are in the process of learning - we are also trying very hard to make our own mark solely based on our merit.”

The Nadeem Baig-directorial - despite being a success - also managed to rack up some serious backlash. Initially for its portrayal of it leading woman, Mehwish which was ignited by Qamar's statements in an interview and later for its dialogues. However, this is the first time an actor of the serial has come forward, opening up about her regrets.

But let me clear one thing, the modern / open-minded women or society are not against it, it is a particular mindset misogynist women. Otherwise actually the modern women are not against that, the actual modern are even not against second marriages.
Falak Zaib | 4 years ago | Reply Why are you going on back foot. You should have appreciated his work as he has unearthed the dark face of Women in the society who have actually ruined lives. Kudos to Khalil Ur Rehman for his work. Appreciate his guts... The only women who hate this drama are the feminist, modern/open minded women of the society because it targets there desires and activities.
