Strike halts Pak-Afghan trade

QUETTA: The Chaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry is continuing its strike against the National Logistics Cell (NLC) at the Pak-Afghan border, halting trade activity between Pakistan and Afghanistan for the last two days at the border city of Chaman and bringing hundreds of goods vehicles to a standstill.

The Chamber of Commerce’s Haji Ghous Ullah alleged NLC officials had mistreated clearing agents and reinstated a fee for the screening of the vehicles.

“NLC officials have forced Afghan Transit Trade clearing agents to suspend trading activity”, the Chamber of Commerce vice president claimed as he called upon the government to take measures to avoid inconvenience to traders. “The strike will continue until the government assures us our concerns will be addressed”, he added.
