KARACHI: In response to the Sindh government’s letter seeking removal of the province's police chief, the federal government on Saturday said that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam would remain at his current position till a final decision is made.

A day earlier, the provincial government wrote a letter to the Establishment Division in Islamabad, requesting the immediate surrender of the Sindh police chief’s services.

In response, the Establishment Division said that Sindh government’s request was under consideration, however, Dr Kaleem Imam will continue to serve as IGP as an additional IG cannot be appointed as acting IG until a final decision is made in this regard.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, along with other cabinet members, are deliberating a response.

The letter issued by the Sindh services secretary stated that “the provincial cabinet is unanimous of the view that the Sindh IGP has lost the confidence of the provincial government due to his inability to lead the Sindh police, observe federal and provincial laws, control crimes and improve the general law and order situation in the province. Therefore, he may be recalled immediately”.
