According to the Rangers, the arrested men, identified as Rasheed alias Khan Baba alias Bala and Ismail alias Chips Wala, were wanted by the Swat administration as well as law enforcement agencies. Fearing arrest, Rasheed fled to Karachi and started carrying out extortion on the orders of Saifullah and Salman alias Abrar, both members of a banned outfit. Meanwhile, Ismail, a resident of Karachi, is said to be a facilitator of the group.
The suspects are also accused of opening fire at a shopkeeper who refused to pay extortion in Orangi Town, and sending threats to the owner of a car rental company and a scrap dealer. FIRs for these incidents had been registered at Mominabad Police Station.
