KARACHI: Microsoft ended support for Windows 7, their most popular operating system, on January 14, 2020.

The company made a commitment to offer a decade of product support for Windows 7 on its launch on October 22, ten years ago.

The decision implies Microsoft will no longer provide security updates for PCs running the OS, fix bugs or offer technical assistance.

Microsoft now wants to focus its investment on supporting newer technologies. The company proposed users shift to Windows 10 in order to avoid complications.

“Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available,” the company wrote on their website.

Study shows people are not ready to let Windows 7 go

While it is still possible to continue using the OS, Microsoft advises against it.

“If you continue to use Windows 7 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Your PC will continue to start and run, but will no longer receive software updates, including security updates, from Microsoft.”
