ISLAMABAD: The government is committed to increasing services exports which remained at $5 billion for growth of the country’s economy, said Adviser to PM on Commerce, Textile, Industry, Production and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood.

Inaugurating a two-day stakeholder’s consultation session on e-commerce policy implementation, Dawood highlighted the significance of e-commerce and the resolve of the present government to facilitate and promote this sector.

The adviser emphasised that the Ministry of Commerce was actively engaged with the relevant stakeholders for effective implementation of this policy since its approval from the federal cabinet on October 1, 2019.

“Focus of the ministry had always remained to harmonise and simplify the procedures for robust growth of e-commerce,” he said.

Although the private sector appreciated the ministry’s efforts of engaging them in the e-commerce policy implementation process, they also highlighted the bottlenecks being faced by them, he added.

The adviser said that the government wanted to resolve the taxation issues, payment digitisation, consumer protection, training and capacity building of SMEs including women entrepreneurs operating from remote areas of the country.
