Twin cities bar associations’ polls held

Ghulam Mustafa becomes Rawalpindi Bar president, while Zafar Khokhar wins Islamabad Bar elections

RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD: The elections of bar associations of the twin cities were held on Saturday in which Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah won the Rawalpindi Bar Association elections while Zafar Khokhar won the Islamabad Bar Association polls.

In the Rawalpindi Bar Association polls, Sakhwat Kazmi was elected as the vice president and Yasir Chatta as a general secretary while Waqas Kiyani was elected as joint secretary.

They won the election with the heavy mandate. Out of 3,418 votes, a total of 2,017 were polled in the Rawalpindi bar election. The lawyers after winning the election chanted slogans, danced, and distributed sweets to celebrate their victory.

Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected president Ghulam Mustafa said they will work for the supremacy of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary. He said all the longstanding issues of the Rawalpindi Bar Association would be addressed.

Zafar Khokhar won the elections of the Islamabad District Bar Association by bagging 1,100 votes. Mujahid Kalyar was elected as joint secretary. Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected president of Islamabad Bar Association, Khokhar said they will protect the rights of lawyers and will work for the independence of the judiciary.
