Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the use of mobile phones is giving rise to the menace of drugs and child abuse, terming both the issues "cancerous" for the society.

He remarked while addressing the launching ceremony of Zindagi app  in Islamabad which has been introduced by the PTI government in an effort to halt drug penetration in the society.

The mobile app will contain information on the hazards of drug use.

“We are using technology to spread awareness about the issue but unfortunately, the use of mobile phones is giving rise to the problem of child abuse and use of drugs," said Premier Imran, vowing to tackle the matter on a war-footing basis.

He urged all stakeholders of the society including parents, teachers as well as religious scholars to play their role in creating awareness about both the issues.

"The both issues have devastating impact on our society but unfortunately our society is ignorant about this," he added.

The prime minister also said children are the most vulnerable part of the society "who neither have maturity nor understanding about this issue".

“Previously the drugs were only consumed at university level but now we are hearing that it’s has been used by school students too which is quite shocking,” he said.
