Chinese national beats up traffic official

Scuffle broke out when cop restrained him from parking in no parking zone

KARACHI: A Chinese man beat up a traffic police officer on Wednesday when he was asked to refrain from parking his vehicle in the No Parking zone near Qayyumabad Chowrangi. The injured traffic official was shifted to a nearby hospital by police, who reached the spot after receiving the complaint. Police arrested the Chinese national, who was identified as Tsong Popeung, and registered a case against him.

The CCTV footage of the incident, available with The Express Tribune, shows a luxury car about to park in a No Parking Zone. A traffic cop approaches the car and stops the driver of the vehicle from parking there. The driver and Chinese man accompanying him refuse to follow the cop's instructions. The traffic cop picks something from the ground and moves towards the vehicle which prompts the Chinese man to respond with kicks and punches to the cop.

The injured cop, an official of Zaman Town Traffic Police, bore bruises on his face and lips after passersby intervened to end the scuffle. A complaint was made with Madadgar 15 and a police team arrived at the site. They arrested Tsong and shifted him to Korangi Area Police Station, where a case was registered against him.

According to Zaman Town Traffic Section In-Charge, the detained man owns a store in Bukhari, Defence Housing Authority.
