Police to ensure security on New Year’s Eve

LAHORE: Lahore police have devised a comprehensive plan to maintain law and order on New Year’s Eve.

According to the plan, at least 6,000 police officials, including additional contingents of Dolphin Squads and Police Response Units, under the supervision of six SPs, 35 DSPs, 86 SHOs, 352 upper subordinates will be deployed on security duty. The plan was finalised during a meeting chaired by DIG Operations Lahore Rai Babar Saeed on Monday.

Saeed said that on the New Year's night, Lahore police would strictly deal with those who were involved in anti-social activities or hooliganism, including aerial firing, one-wheeling and use of firearms.

He directed the police officials to adopt foolproof security measures and remain high alert to ensure a peaceful atmosphere on New Year’s night.

Saeed further directed all divisional SPs and DSPs to personally visit all the important areas in their respective jurisdictions particularly important public places.

Security beefed up in Karachi on New Year's Eve

DIG Operations said that all the routes will be scanned and monitored continuously and Dolphin Squads along with Police Response Units will ensure effective patrolling at shopping centres, markets, parks and recreational places of the city.

Additional contingents of police will also be deployed at different parks and main recreational places of the city to deal with any untoward situation. Moreover, Lahore police would check everyone at all entry and exit points of the city. He directed the citizens to follow the traffic rules and avoid aerial firing and one-wheeling. The purpose of these security arrangements is to ensure the safety of life and property of the citizens along with maintaining law and order situation on New Year's Night, he concluded.

CTPL to deploy 50 squads

The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) will deploy at least 50 squads of motorcyclists on Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozpur Road, Canal Road and GT Road to counter one-wheeling, hooliganism and speeding. Extra deployment will also be made on Main Boulevard Gulberg and Allama Iqbal Road.
