K-P health dept sets up committee to monitor dengue plan
Terms of references have been finalised
PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Health Department on Monday notified a provincial oversight committee that will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Dengue Action Plan (DAP) for 2020.
According to a notice issued by the government on Monday, the K-P chief secretary will be the chairman of this body while other members include the provincial health secretary, officials from the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, Local Government and Rural Development Department, Higher Education Department, Information and Public Relations Department, Irrigation Department, Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Relief, Rehabilitation, and Settlement Department, K-P Health Services director-general, Merged district health services director and any other co-opted members.
The terms of references for the committee have been drafted to supervise, coordinate and mobilise the necessary resources for implementing the plan.
To ensure the timely availability of resources and compliance of respective departments, periodic meetings will be held while progress reports regarding implementation of the plan will be submitted.
K-P, like other provinces of the country, has been hard hit by the dengue virus this year.
A daily dengue case report prepared by the Provincial Dengue Response Unit and the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR), from January 1 to December 16 this year, a total of 7,082 confirmed cases of dengue fever were reported in the province.
Peshawar reported the most dengue cases while the only not to report any case thus far were Chitral, Torghar, Orakzai Tribal District and the North and South Waziristan Tribal Districts.
According to the IDSR, despite a large number of dengue cases, no fatalities due to the viral fever were reported in the province thus far.
