An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Monday sent Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel on judicial remand till July 30.
The ATC rejected his physical remand, however, fearing that it would result in a repeat of events that took place on Friday. Within hours of his arrest, he was forcibly freed by as many as 30 armed men, purportedly party workers. Aqeel was arrested for his involvement in the Rs6 billion National Police Foundation land scam.
The Station House Officer (SHO) Shalimar requested the court to allow police to take the two men into physical custody for seven days. He said this was necessary in order to acquire information about the weapons and the car used for his forcible release on Friday.
The lawyer of the MNA, however, maintained that Aqeel did not know the people and that they had coercively took him away from police custody. Aqeel said he was being politically victimised by the federal government and the cases being registered against him were false.
Prominent supporters outside the courtroom in Rawalpindi where Aqeel was brought amidst tight security were MNA Malik Abrar Ahmed and MPA Ziaullah Shah.
Charges pile up
In another land scam case being heard by a judicial magistrate in Islamabad, Aqeel was given into police custody for three days. The case was registered against him in 2002.
Aqeel was brought before the court of judicial magistrate Rai Liaquat Kharal. Police requested the court to sentence him to seven days of police custody, but the court granted only three days of physical remand instead.

I don't know why these supporters are chatting slogans in favour of Culprits, you may see Monis Ellahi or Anjum Aqueel all these supporters should also be put into jail.
So that these types of paid supporters should be get the lesson.
There should be the rule of law in the country then we can grow, develop and say ourselves that we are civilized community. God bless our country (Pakistan). If one is accused, he should be brought in judgement. But I am sorry to say, we are living in dark ages where there is no laws for the rich person. Every law is made for the poor. May God bless our nation.
Rule of law is not for PML N (CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry)
Partisan !!! Every Political Party should emulate and follow in foot steps of PML N. Its always promote peace and justice if you have your ideologues. Thankyou for the support.
Speaking to the media outside court, Aqeel claimed he was innocent and that he was being blackmailed and victimized.......of course its just another political vendetta in progress...dnt worry dude...you will be out sooner than later.....
great justice is done with judiciary beloved pious PMLN MNA.
anjum aqeel is being pursued by our media, our judiciary but why is the media silent when the judges run away from the case of salman taseer's killer? why no talkshows,no newsreports over the developments in salman taseer shaheed's case? why no 'expert' lawyers on tv discussing the merits of this case when they are all too eager to discuss every other case?
the media should end its support of islamic fascism and its glorification of islamic terrorists.it's time shahbaz bhatti's killers were brought to justice and salman taseer's killer was hanged.
This is so Shameful. At Least PML N leadership should throw him out of the Party on immediate Basis.
This is the true face of the PML-N and the Sharifs. Just wait until they win the next election. Within six months even the Pakistani liberals will be begging the army to take over.
