The petition calls out the song for 'ridiculing' men in the 'guise of women empowerment,' adding that it mocks masculinity, according to the plaintiff maintained in the petition.
"You decide for yourself after listening to the song and join me in raising my voice against this bias track. You should seek explanation from Abrarul Haq for the blow to the masculinity of the nation," maintained Rana Adnan.
He added that Abrarul Haq should delete the song and apologise to the nation, given that it is a matter of the 'national interest'.
Abrarul Haq's Chamkeeli features popular actor Mehwish Hayat and vlogger Shahveer Jaffery. The track shows Hayat dressed as a bride and Shahveer as the groom.
“Are you guys ready for the new wedding song of the year?” Abrar questioned in a post before the song was revealed.“My new song Chamkeeli is releasing on 7th December, Featuring Mehwish Hayat and Shahveer Jaffery.”
The video of the song shows Abrar console the groom and protect him, as Hayat seems to be on a rampage. She appears to be playing the role of dominant bride as Shahveer attempts to make a run for it after witnessing her anger.
It seems that Abrar may have possibly taken inspiration from her social activism and outspoken personality to create the narrative of the song. But it seems his inclination towards portraying a dominant woman may have backfired after his accusers took it as an insult of men altogether, while adhering to the gender construct of society.
Nevertheless, the Civil Judge Ziaur Rahman has adjourned the hearing till December 21, seeking response from Abrar-ul-Haq, PEMRA and others.
Abrar's songs Nach Punjaban Nach was also criticised for similar reasons. While his rendition of Billo De Ghar was also taken off of Coke Studio's Youtube page due to alleged copyright issues.
