Bilal proceeded to thank his co-star Mahira Khan, Momina Duraid the producer and Muhammad Ehteshamuddin who directed the film." It's been a wonderful journey where I’ve made new friends and learnt so much. I am so glad to be able to share this journey with the world which has accepted it" the actor concluded.

It is  Ehteshamuddin's first feature film as a director. His previous directorial projects consist of television dramas such as Aangan and Udaari that was lauded by the public and critics alike, both released in 2018 and 2016 respectively. Udaari went on to bag Hum Award for Best Director.

Superstar also features veteran actors Nadeem Baig and Jawed Sheikh in supporting roles. The film also features special appearances from Kubra Khan, Syra Shehroz, Hania Amir, Osman Khalid Butt, Adnan Shah Tipu and Mani.

The plot sees the lives of two actors living in Pakistan intertwine.  Mahira Khan plays a struggling actor (Noori) from bhaaati gate, who runs into her crush and superstar (Sameer Khan) during the shoot of a TV advert. Despite the obvious class difference, they manage to strike chemistry and fall for each other.

The story then revolves around the stark realities of the present day film industry and tries to explore the struggle of being a superstar against the struggle of being an actor in the background of the current socio-political environment.

The second most grossing movie of the year was the romantic-comedy Parey Hut Love. The film stars Sheheryar Munawwar and Maya Ali in lead roles. Ahmed Ali Butt, Shahbaz Shigri and Zara Noor Abbas are featured in supporting role.

Yasir Nawaz’s Wrong No. 2 featuring Neelam Munir and Sami Khan is ranked at number 3. Meanwhile 'Chhalawa' the fourth film directed by Wajahat Rauf was on number four in the film. The patriotic action film 'Sherdil' that has Mikaal Zulfiqar in the lead role became the 5th highest grossing film of the year.

This year the government imposed a ban on the screening of Indian films in the country amid tension on the borders. The ban has created a favorable situation for Pakistani films
