Opposition seeks K-P assembly session on December 23

Opposition wants to discuss issues such as Peshawar BRT, Billion Tree Tsunami projects

PESHAWAR: Members of the opposition in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly have submitted a requisition to the assembly secretariat, calling for a session of the house on December 23. The request is likely to be accepted and a notification for the session is expected to be issued today (Monday).

As many as 42 opposition members submitted a ten-point agenda in the Assembly Secretariat calling for a session. The agenda includes burning issues such as the net hydel profits of the province, problems being faced by the tobacco growers, rise in electricity tariffs, the development process in the newly-merged tribal districts (NMTDs) other prevailing problems.

Other issues on the agenda include funding for ongoing projects in the province, a detailed discussion on the Bus Rapid Transit Project (BRT) project, the Billion Tree Tsunami (BTT) and gas supply to several districts of the province. Upcoming local body elections and the medical teaching institute (MTI) act, lack of medical facilities in hospitals have also been included on the agenda.

Assembly Secretariat sources say that following the submission of the requisition, the meeting of the assembly is likely to be convened on December 23 after a joint meeting of the government and the opposition benches.
