MULTAN: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government is taking all possible measures to promote agriculture, enhance wheat production and improve the financial condition of farmers, said Punjab Minister for Energy Dr Akhtar Malik.

The previous government ignored the agriculture sector, he added. “The role of farmers is vital in meeting the food and clothing needs of the people.”

He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on wheat on Saturday. The provincial minister further said that the progress of the agriculture sector was crucial for developing Pakistan. He maintained that he himself belonged to a farmer family and was well aware of problems of the community.

He explained that due to different steps taken by the incumbent government, it was for the first time that farmers got government fixed prices of wheat and sugarcane.
