Pakistan's first modern mass transit project opens today
The OLMT project is expected to open doors for the general public by March 2020

After a prolonged delay, Punjab Minister for Transport Muhammad Jehanzaib Khan Khichi will inaugurate the trial run of the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) on Tuesday (today).
As per the announced schedule, all dignitaries will gather at Dera Gujran Station (Station No 1) and board on the metro train which will reach Ali Town, last station, after a run of 40 minutes.
Following the inauguration, the project will formally enter in its completion phase. After the successful completion of the testing phase, the project is expected to open doors for the general public by March 2020.
This train will complete 27 kilometres of distance from Ali Town to Dera Gujran in 45 minutes. It will pass through the congested areas of the city where more than 250,000 passengers travel on a daily basis.
Once the project is completed, it will connect Raiwind, Multan Road, Mcleod Road, Lahore Junction Railway Station and the Grand Trunk Road. It will be the first line of the Lahore Metro, which is the country’s first mass rapid transit train system.
