SHC commutes sentence of murder convict

He was convicted of murder by the trial court for stabbing his wife, sister-in-law to death in 2014

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court commuted the death sentence awarded to a man convicted of double murder to life imprisonment on Monday. A bench heard convict Murshid's appeal against the sentence. The bench accepted his plea and commuted the sentence to life imprisonment while making minor changes in the trial court's judgment.

Murshid was convicted of murder by the trial court for stabbing his wife Mehnaz and sister-in-law Shahina to death in 2014.

Meanwhile, a bench accepted the bail pleas of four accused in the reference pertaining to china-cutting in Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Scheme 36. The court granted bail to KDA Deputy Director Syed Atif Hussain Naqvi, Muhammad Feroz, Muhammad Faheemuddin and Sarfaraz Ahmed, against the surety of Rs1,000,000 each.

According to the National Accountability Bureau, the accused did china cutting of land in Scheme 36 and converted 23 amenity plots into 266 commercial and residential plots.
