Cultural dance, kickboxing add colour to Thai reception

National Day event well attended by diplomats, officials

Cultural performances and a kick-boxing demonstration added colour to the Thai National Day reception in the federal capital the other day.

Thai artists had specially flown in from Bangkok to perform at the national day festivities. The national day was accompanied by a Thai Food Festival, which had commenced at a local hotel the other day and provided for a mouth-watering setting.

Thai artistes, decked out in traditional dresses, presented a mesmerising performance of traditional Thai dance. A Thai martial art, ‘Muay Thai’, performance was another hallmark of the event.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said relations between Pakistan and Thailand are constantly on the move, adding that both countries have been cooperating on various forums.

He added that the relationship between Pakistan and Thailand will continue to thrive further in the days to come with bilateral ties currently on a positive trajectory.

In the context of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Chaudhry said that Thailand occupies an important place while Pakistan also enjoys critical strategic importance in the subcontinent. Hence, both countries need to benefit from each other.


He said that the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government is serious in strengthening relations with other ASEAN countries.

Earlier Thai Ambassador Pornpop Uampidhaya said Thailand and Pakistan established relations back in 1951, and have remained strong ever since.

He said both countries have been cooperating in many fields, adding that there are many Pakistanis who live in Thailand.

The ambassador hoped relations between the two countries will strengthen further in the days to come.

A large number of guests hailing from various walks of life attended the reception.
