PML-N lawmakers protest lack of quorum during NA session, stage walkout

PML-N demands production orders for Rana Sanaullah and Khwaja Saad Rafiq

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers on Friday walked out of the National Assembly in protest over lack of quorum.

The lawmakers also protested against Speaker Asad Qaiser and refused to attend the session until order is restored in the assembly.

Questioning the lack of production orders for jailed leaders of the party, the PML-N demanded that former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq and former law minister Rana Sanaullah be allowed to attend the sessions.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan tried to persuade the PML-N lawmakers but the opposition refused to listen to his reasoning.

Earlier in the meeting, the ministry of energy presented details of monthly changes in the price of petroleum during the first year of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government and noted that the price of petroleum products has increased seven times and decreased 11 times.

According to the data presented by the petroleum division, the government – through petroleum taxes - has earned approximately Rs206 billion.

The minister further said the government is collecting Rs45 per litre on diesel, Rs35 per litre on petrol, Rs20 on kerosene and Rs14 per litre on light diesel.
