Walk, seminar on breast cancer held

Students and teachers of UoB participate in the event

QUETTA: Teachers and students of the University of Balochistan (UoB) participated in a walk and a seminar organised by its Faculty of Social Sciences to spread awareness about breast cancer.

The walk ended outside the main auditorium after passing through various routes from the Faculty of Arts.

The seminar was titled ‘Preventive, Cure and Prevention’.

Speaking on the occasion, UoB Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Anwar Panizai said it was necessary to spread awareness about various diseases so that their prevention and treatment could be ensured.

"Students from different areas of Balochistan can better promote awareness in the society,” he added.

“There is a deep connection between educational institutions and society.”

Dr Panizai noted that breast cancer could be detected in time and treated using modern technology,

The other speakers at the event informed the audience that every year more than 40,000 women in Pakistan were affected by breast cancer and many of them ended up at the final stage of the disease because of the lack of timely diagnosis and awareness.

They also stressed the need for spreading awareness about obesity and other diseases. The UoB’s Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Alam Mengal, Dr Saud Taj, Dr Mahjabeen Marri, Dr Shaista Durrani and Dr Misbah Rathore were among those who attended the event.
