KARACHI:
A man killed his daughter on Saturday by smashing her skull with a hammer. He also injured his wife and son using the same hammer and then committed suicide by jumping off the roof of the building. Muhammad Kashif, 40, was a resident of KDA Flats in Shadman Town and the incident occurred in his house. His wife Sofia, 35, and Ayan, 10, were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by the police team which arrived after receiving a complaint by the family's neighbours. The doctors stated that the victims are in critical condition.

According to Sharae Noor Jahan SHO Khalid Nadeem Baig, the minor boy was shifted to a private hospital at stadium road after being given first aid at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while Sofia got 28 stitches on her head and has a fractured hand.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Salim, the additional police surgeon at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, said that Zainab had a deep wound which fractured her skull and resulted in her death. He said that Kashif's body had no external wound but his skull and most of his bones were fractured in the fall. The bodies of both the deceased were handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities.

According to DSP Nasir Bukhari, the security guard of the building told the police that he heard a loud thud and when he went to ascertain the source of the noise, he found Kashif lying on the ground. There is no boundary wall on the building's roof, said the DSP.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the family's neighbours said that they heard screams from Kashif's apartment before the suicide occurred. They said that Kashif and his wife did not interact much with the neighbours.

Initial investigation revealed that Kashif had been fired from his job at a travel agency some months ago, said the DSP. He added that Kashif had been giving private tuitions and had been dismissed by the students three to four days ago. The DSP said that Kashif had been fighting with his wife every other day which culminated in him attempting to kill his family on Saturday and then believing them to be dead, he committed suicide.
