Review: Nokia 7.2, high on aesthetics, low on features

The smartphone performs fairly better than its predecessor

Keeping up with the tradition of reviewing the latest smartphones and gadgets, we reviewed Nokia 7.2 in charcoal colour, which is the latest entrant to the smartphone industry in Pakistan.

Nokia 7.2 is equipped with a powerful 48MP triple camera with Quad Pixel technology and ZEISS Optics that provides users with top-notch image quality.

The Finnish smartphone brand has integrated DSLR level pro-bokeh styles into a smartphone along with artificial intelligence-based low light image fusion technology which provides users with the freedom to experiment with photos.

Nokia 7.2 comes in a sleek frosted matte black finish; waterdrop notch and HDR10, which is an update from standard definition to HD, it enables users to view still images and videos with much better brightness, contrast, and better colour accuracy.

Video-gaming and movie streaming has been enhanced with the HDR10 technology

The device weighs about 180g and 159.92 x 75.15 x 8.25mm in thickness which makes the smartphone light yet sturdy.

The device is equipped with a 6.3-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels that is protected with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass screen that is designed to resist damage.

On the other hand, one can not ignore that Nokia is mentioned on the back and the front. It looks repetitive and feels like there is too much text on the smartphone.

The device comes in three colour options; charcoal, cyan green and ice.

Pakistan's smartphone industry has seen some incredible middle ranged launches that have exceptional camera quality.

Keeping up with the competition, the smartphone is packed with 20 MP Quad Pixel front-facing camera along with Rear cameras 48-megapixel 1/2" Quad Pixel, 5-megapixel depth sensor, an 8-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide lens and Rear flash LED.

Nokia has rekindled its partnership with ZEISS optics, a company known to bringing users a better camera experience.

It includes professional mode, panorama, portrait, night scene, time-lapse photography and slow motion.

Nokia 7.2 performs fairly better than its predecessor smartphones with Snapdragon 660 chip installed. The device works faster along with Android 9.0 pie that enhances user navigation experience while operating the device.

Battery

One of the most essential requirements for a good smartphone is good battery life; the 7.2 is equipped 3500 mAh battery pack along with typical 5V/2A charging which gives users decent battery life. However, recent smartphone launches from Nokia's competitors have provided users with better battery life at a mid-range price.

Nokia 7.2 comes with an internal storage of 64 or 128 GB and MicroSD card slot support for up to 512 GB, enough for you to install your favourite applications.

Hardware

The smartphone is packed with a 3.5 mm headphone jack, 2 microphones with spatial surround sound capture, USB 2.0 and dual sim option.

There is a finger sensor and face recognition option available along with various other traditional security unlocking system.

Verdict

The new Nokia 7.2 is beautifully designed, simple and classic with a matte frost finish that sets the design apart from all the other smartphones. With decent camera quality along with HDR10 screen visuals, the device performs fairly well.

However, priced at Rs47,500, the new Nokia 7.2 faces immense competition from Chinese smartphone companies; the device does not provide users with better features or camera quality that can outdo the competition.
