RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) announced on Thursday that they will work together to rid the city of waste. For this purpose, a mobile application is being created which will help form a close liaison with residents and seek suggestions and recommendations to improve cleanliness drives, activities and plans under the Glorious Rawalpindi project.

This was stated by RWMC Managing Director (MD) Awais Tarar, during his visit to the RCCI.

Addressing chamber members and trade representatives, he said that RWMC is committed to keeping the city clean and green and has devised an ambitious plan comprising various activities for the purpose. He added that it was undertaken with the active participation of the chamber, trade associations and community members.

He informed that a mobile application will be launched soon where anyone can upload a picture of waste and it will add a task on the central dashboard where it will be resolved per the given timeline. After completion of the task, the sender will receive a response with a picture certifying that action has been taken, he added.

Tarar added that the RWMC collects between 700-750 tonnes of waste from the city daily. To dispose of this waste, he said that the company has acquired 300 acres of land near Mandra to use as a landfill.

All operational vehicles, including contractor vehicles, are being managed through a Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System (VTMS), he informed.

He appreciated RCCI’s suggestions for improving waste collection from the markets and awareness drives in the community for a clean environment.

RCCI President Saboor Malik said that a clean environment is imperative for boosting trade activities and consumers always prefer to visit clean markets and malls. He suggested increasing shift timings and staff for waste collection for the markets and assured full support of the chamber in improving the city.
