KARACHI:

The city courts were empty on Thursday after violence broke out Wednesday night. No cases or prisoners were presented as protests gained momentum over minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s comments against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. People who came to court left early as there were barely 100 lawyers present.

The Karachi Bar Association (KBA), the Malir Bar Association and the Sindh Bar Council have postponed their joint press conference against non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working inside the central jail and court buildings. The press conference will now be held on July 16. “We are postponing the press conference because of low court attendance and the law and order situation in the city,” said KBA president Advocate Muhammad Aqil. “Our strike, however, will continue as decided by the KBA general body.”
