Reconstruction, repair of roads begins in East District

RS4 million has been allocated to each union council for this purpose

KARACHI: Much to the gratification of the residents of District East, authorities have started repair work to fix the dilapidated and broken thoroughfares in the district.

East district municipal corporation (DMC) chairperson has allocated Rs4 million to each of the union councils for carrying out the development and repair work, which includes patching potholes and fixing roads damaged by rains.  Talking to The Express Tribune, he said, "We have started the reconstruction of roads in the district using our limited resources." He said that the DMC will issue more funds for the repair and construction work, for which Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will also provide assistance.

As part of the development and repair work, a two-kilometre long road has been constructed in Block 13-D of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Another main road has been reconstructed in Block 15-D of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, near Rab Medical Centre. Moreover, two long patches of roads are under construction in PIB Colony and near Nishtar Park. The authorities have also taken measures to repair roads located in Block 16 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Block 10-A of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.  To add to it, a road is being constructed near NED University of Engineering and Technology. It is expected that construction and repair of various roads in PECHS, Lines Area, Mehmoodabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Martin Quarters, Dhoraji Society and other areas of the district will be completed within a month.
