PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Mines and Mineral Dr Amjad Ali on Monday took notice of a coal mine incident in the Kalakhel area of the Khyber Tribal District.

Dr Ali directed the relevant authorities to launch an enquiry in the matter apart from visiting the affected mine, and asses the rescue operation and safety arrangements of the mine.

The minister added that mine owners should ensure the implementation of safety laws and that the government will take strict actions against those who risk the lives of mine workers owing to poor safety measures.

The department said that the incident took place due to the accumulation of carbon monoxide in the mine, causing an explosion leaving three miners trapped. The department further said that the contractor had started working on a sealed mine without seeking approval.
